Background
When TailoredCV partnered with SmartClick in December 2024, the brand had strong product-market fit but minimal organic visibility. Competitors dominated the SERPs with authoritative content, while TailoredCV’s site suffered from content decay, technical SEO issues, and misaligned search intent.
In this Career Platform SaaS SEO case study, we highlight how SmartClick helped TailoredCV overcome these challenges and turn SEO into a core growth driver.
The Challenge
The fintech SaaS and career platform landscape is dominated by well-funded competitors investing heavily in content marketing. TailoredCV faced:
- SERP monopolization by leading enterprise competitors
- Thin, low-performing content on key service pages
- Lack of content presence across all funnel stages (ToFu, MoFu, BoFu)
- Misaligned search intent and decaying rankings
- Insufficient organic visibility to generate meaningful traffic
- Low volume of inbound leads from organic search
- Sales growth constrained by lack of qualified organic traffic
The SmartClick Approach
We implemented a five-phase SEO strategy, where each phase built on the previous to create compounding growth, aligning TailoredCV’s content, structure, and positioning with how job seekers actually search and convert:

Phase 1: Auditing
Auditing and establishing a growth strategy
We began with a full audit across technical SEO, content, backlinks, internal linking, and E-E-A-T signals to establish a clear growth strategy.
A key issue we identified was severe content cannibalization. We found multiple blog posts targeting the same keywords, which diluted rankings and prevented pages from gaining authority. We consolidated these into stronger, single-source guides and implemented redirects to preserve link equity.
Alongside this, we conducted in-depth keyword and market research focused specifically on resume tailoring and job-specific applications and analyzed competitors to identify gaps. We also restructured internal linking and anchor text to reflect the real buyer journey and reoptimized key feature pages and the homepage to align with high-intent queries.
Technical issues impacting crawlability and indexing were resolved early to ensure a clean slate for growth.
Phase 2: ToFu Content
Building content to increase top-of-funnel visibility
With the foundation in place, we rebuilt the blog into an organized growth channel designed to attract early interest and build topical authority.
Instead of publishing articles without a plan, we created consolidated, high-value content targeting informational search intent. We focused on real user problems like how to tailor resumes, improve response rates, and optimize for ATS systems. Content was organized into clear clusters (e.g. finance, consulting, engineering), allowing TailoredCV to build authority across industries relevant to its users.
We also implemented a deliberate internal linking strategy to connect blog content to feature pages and key conversion points using optimized anchor text. This ensured users coming in through informational queries would naturally land on TailoredCV’s core product.
Phase 3: BoFu / MoFu
Transactional keywords and bottom-of-funnel optimization
With visibility and traffic in place, it was time to focus on driving real conversions. We developed content targeting MoFu and BoFu queries with clear commercial intent and reoptimized feature pages to rank for both primary and secondary transactional keywords, including terms related to AI resume tools, resume tailoring, and cover letter generation.
We also expanded into industry-specific and programmatic pages (e.g. role-based resume guides) and connected them to the rest of the content. This created a clear path from specific search queries to conversions, especially for graduates, career switchers, and busy professionals tailoring their applications.

Phase 4: AI Search
Optimizing for LLM and AI search visibility
As AI began reshaping how users discover information, we adapted TailoredCV’s content architecture to improve visibility within LLM-driven searches.
By consolidating content into key pages, improving structure, and strengthening topical authority, we made it easier for AI systems to understand and cite TailoredCV’s content. Pages were optimized to clearly answer user questions, increasing their chances of appearing in AI-generated responses.
As a result, TailoredCV started appearing across AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude. This extended visibility beyond search engines and positioned the brand as a recommended option for job seekers.
Phase 5: Maintenance
Ongoing website health and monitoring
To sustain growth, we continuously monitored technical SEO and content performance. This included regular checks for indexing issues, content gaps, and keyword cannibalization as new pages and programmatic content were added.
We also kept a clean backlink and internal linking structure, so authority stayed consolidated instead of being spread out. This helped TailoredCV scale its organic presence while maintaining stable rankings and conversions over time.
